"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
— 2 Timothy 4:7
Ernest Smith was born on June 29, 1946, to the late George and Geraldine Smith. On February 14, 2026, he entered into eternal rest at the age of 79.
Ernest was united in holy matrimony to the late Linda Smith. From their union, two children were born: Regina Smith and Timothy Smith. He was preceded in death by his dedicated daughter, Regina.
A devoted and faithful member of Samuel Grove Baptist Church, Ernest served diligently as a deacon. His commitment to the church was rooted in his faith and reflected in his consistent service. Whether assisting the pastor, supporting church families, or helping maintain the ministry, he served with quiet strength and dependability. His faith was not only something he believed, but something he lived.
Ernest was known for his thoughtful yet brief conversations. He did not speak excessively, but when he did, his words carried intention. He never missed calling his family on birthdays and holidays, faithfully acknowledging important moments with consistency and care.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted son, Timothy Smith. He will also be fondly remembered by his loyal brother, George (Elouise) Smith, and his faithful sisters, Dorothy Smith and Monica (Joseph) Delapara; along with his brothers-in-law: Emory Babbs Jr., Marvin Babbs, Maurice Babbs, Linton (Earnestine) Cato, Rev. Tony (Lynn) Cato, and Willie Lee Williams; and his sisters-in-law: Marsha Babbs, Twana Boatwright, Gertrude (William) Cato, Sarah Jones, and Shirley (Willie) Lovett. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris (Willie) Williams.
His memory will also be held dear by his nieces, nephews, extended family, and church family.
He will be truly missed, and his life of faith and service will continue to speak for him.
